MEMBERSHIP FEES

TYPES OF MEMBERS

The club has three types of members - full members, student members, and associate members.

Full members have full access to the club. They have voting rights at general meetings. They are entitled to flying instruction and when suitably qualified may fly solo.

Student members are full time students or under 21 years old. They have the same rights as full members except they cannot vote at general meetings. Associate members receive the club newsletter, and may fly as passengers at visitors' rates.

JOINING FEE

The club has a joining fee of $130.00. All applicants for full membership pay this fee unless they are a member of another club which would waive joining fees for our members.

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION

All members except honorary life members pay an annual subscription. The club uses a 1 July to 30 June financial year. The annual subscription:

  • for full members is $250.00,
  • for student members is $60.00,
  • and for associate members is $30.00.

At the time of joining, all members pay a full year's subscription. On the July 1 after joining, flying members pay a fraction of the subscription to update their membership to June 30 of the following year. The membership secretary will calculate the correct amount and send out a bill.

GFA SUBSCRIPTION

All flying members must be members of the Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA). The GFA administers the sport nationally. It oversees flying standards and training and glider airworthiness and maintenance. Members of the GFA also receive a monthly magazine, "Australian Gliding". There are two levels of membership - full and student. Flying members under eighteen years old qualify for student membership. Second and subsequent members of a family are eligible for a reduction of the GFA charge, but only one copy of Australian Gliding will be sent to each household.

For GFA subscription fees please see the GFA web site.

INSURANCE LEVY

The insurance levy is $20.00. This covers the insurance excess on the gliders. All flying members pay this levy when they join. The insurance levy is not paid again until one of the club's gliders has an accident requiring an insurance claim. This levy can only be charged once each financial year.

GLIDER HIRE

There are three ways to hire the gliders - hourly, daily, or annually (flat rate). The hourly rate is $48 per hour (80c/minute) for full and student members for the two seaters, the Astir, the Jantar and DG303. Visitors and associate members pay an hourly rate of $?? per hour (??c/minute).

The daily hire rate for a two seater, the Astir or Jantar is $110. For the DG303, the daily hire rate is $150. It applies only to full members. Instead of paying by the minute or day, full and student members may join the flat rate scheme by paying a flat rate fee at 1 October. A fee of $800 covers all glider hire until the end of September of the following year.

AEFs

An air experience flight costs $100. This is a flight of up to thirty minutes from a 2500 ft launch. We now also offer a deluxe flight which costs $150. This is a flight with a 4000 ft launch.

PASSENGER FLIGHTS

Dependents of full members may have occasional passenger flights at members rates.

Flat Rate Glider Hire

Flat Rate is a financial arrangement in our club where members can pay for their glider hire in advance. Once they have paid the flat rate fee, they can fly as many hours in club gliders as they can manage within the flat rate period. The current basic flat rate fee is $800.00 pa. There is also a flat rate component built into our short term membership packages. Launch costs are not included in this fee.
